American Imperialism

The issue for this political cartoon is on American Imperialism. The message they are trying to send is that America is growing in power and strength. Another opinion for this is that America wants to expand its "bald eagle" by expanding land. There are some techniques used in this political cartoon and they are exaggeration  and  symbolism. The reason I say exaggeration is because the bald eagle is literally one third the size of the world. The reason I say symbolism is because the bald eagle  represents the power and strength of the US. So this political cartoon does support American Imperialism. Actually it does a lot because it's it's main focus.

The Roosevelt Corollary +

The issue for this political cartoon is also on the Roosevelt Corollary. The message  for this political cartoon is that Roosevelt would use the big stick even to protect the Caribbean sea. Something else that could work is that he is the policeman for the western hemisphere which is the same thing. some techniques used in this political cartoon is exaggeration and symbolism. The reason I say exaggeration is because Teddy Roosevelt is a giant and is even bigger than ships. The reason I say symbolism is because on the ships it says words. Those ships represent what the word means. So, like last time, this kind of ties with American Imperialism and yet not.

The Roosevelt Corollary

This political cartoon set its mindset on the Roosevelt corollary. The message this political cartoon is sending is on a more negative scale. It`s trying to tell us that the Roosevelt corollary is almost like scaring other people with a big cannon, knives and guns. another opinion is that the Roosevelt corollary so strong and the others are not. Some techniques used in this are exaggeration and symbolism. the reason I say exaggeration is because Teddy Roosevelt is ten times bigger than the other. The reason I say symbolism is because of the guns, cannon, knives and size could mean the power of the Roosevelt corollary. So this kind of goes with American Imperialism, but not a lot.

The Panama Canal

The issue for this political cartoon is the Roosevelt corollary. The message of this political cartoon is that Roosevelt would fight to make this canal possible. There could be another opinion that Roosevelt would just ignore and would make the Panama canal either way. There are two techniques used in this cartoon, they are exaggerated and symbolism. The reason I say exaggerated is well, Teddy Roosevelt is literally fifty times bigger than the guy beside him. The reason I say symbolism is because of what is behind him. I believe those could be the Roosevelt corollary. so this really does go with American Imperialism a lot.

The Open Door Policy

This political cartoon set its thought in the Open Door Policy. The message is the U.S was the only one allowed to trade with China. The reason I say that is because Uncle Sam has a brick in his hand. That brick stand for the U.S military and that military (brick) would stop other people from entering. Another opinion is that the brick is actually a offer to trade with China, we protect you and we access your markets. Some techniques used in this are exaggeration and labeling. The reason I say exaggeration because Uncle Sam is big, even crouched, he is taller than the person beside him. The reason I say labeling is because the door, brick, the house in the back says the thing they represent. So I believe this does support American Imperialism because they are extending their markets.

The Spanish American war

This political cartoon supports the Spanish American and what it represents. The message is that "McKinley" will serve us the the American people (Uncle Sam) whatever we want. Another opinion is that the nation wants to expand and McKinley would help, this is pretty similar to the other one. The techniques used in this political cartoon is symbolism and analogy. The labeling comes from the towel held from the waitress that says McKinley. The reason to say symbolism is because the waitress symbolizes McKinley and Uncle Sam could symbolize the people. So overall, this does symbolize the Spanish American War. But it also does not be to specific to understand.

The Purchase of Alaska

In this political cartoon, the issue is on the Purchase of Alaska. The author seems to be telling us that Alaska is just a big piece of land that we wasted 7 million dollars on because that big rock they are carting is actually Alaska (I`ll get more into that later) and there is no gold, diamonds, it`s just a big rock. Many people will most likely agree that this is true because of it all represents. There are some techniques used in this political cartoon, one is symbolism, for example, like I said before, that big rock is Alaska. So the reason I say this is Russian America basically means Alaska because Alaska originally came from Russia and then America bought it. This political cartoon also shows labeling because the wagon says treaty and the big rock says Russian America. So this political cartoon does support American imperialism.

America's Goal to an Empire

"Now, will he let go?" Walter McDougall, New York Evening Journal
America's goal to an "empire" is represented by this political cartoon. The cartoonist who made this was explaining to us that America would do anything to expand their land. That we even went to war to secretly expand our land and that war was the Spanish American war where we gained Cuba, Puerto Rico,  Guam, and the Philippines. I pretty sure there will be debate that this is a good thing or a bad thing that he is being portrayed as and there could be stuff like that. But it is portrayed as negatively because it shows that Uncle Sam is being greedy, selfish and stubborn. Even looking at the political cartoon, it says, now will he let go, if you think he will let go, you don't know him. This is showing him as selfish and greedy. But this is showing him as exaggerated and it shows labeling because Uncle Sam is literally the size if the world and labeling is on the countries and under the cartoon. So this political cartoon is portraying what American imperialism is.
