America's Goal to an Empire

"Now, will he let go?" Walter McDougall, New York Evening Journal
America's goal to an "empire" is represented by this political cartoon. The cartoonist who made this was explaining to us that America would do anything to expand their land. That we even went to war to secretly expand our land and that war was the Spanish American war where we gained Cuba, Puerto Rico,  Guam, and the Philippines. I pretty sure there will be debate that this is a good thing or a bad thing that he is being portrayed as and there could be stuff like that. But it is portrayed as negatively because it shows that Uncle Sam is being greedy, selfish and stubborn. Even looking at the political cartoon, it says, now will he let go, if you think he will let go, you don't know him. This is showing him as selfish and greedy. But this is showing him as exaggerated and it shows labeling because Uncle Sam is literally the size if the world and labeling is on the countries and under the cartoon. So this political cartoon is portraying what American imperialism is.
